Our vision at The Arc Volusia is that one day all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) will be included and participate as full members of their communities throughout their lives. We believe all people benefit when persons with I/DD are included in community life.
To this end, we make concerted efforts to involve are Day Program participants in the community. Our aim is to be an empowerment and equipping center, from which we can launch our participants forward into new experiences and opportunities.
- Kiwanis Aktion Club – An outreach of Kiwanis International, we have one of 500 clubs across the country. The mission of the club is to provide adults living with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative, leadership skills and to serve their communities. The motto: “Where development has no disability!” Pictured above – members of our Aktion club delivering food they’ve collected to the local Human society.
- Volunteer Opportunities – Our program participants love to volunteer for local community events and to help out at The Arc Campus in a variety of ways.
- Community Outings – We go on outings into the community to take in local sights, attend community events, and participate in recreational opportunities.
- Job Shadowing & Tours – A core part of our educational and vocational components, we take program participants on tours of local businesses and give them opportunities to learn about jobs and opportunities in the community.
